VersaTile Flooring in the News A recent article from the Daleville, Alabama Ledger: Current, former Daleville residents come through for new Community Center floorOf total $14,900 cost for new floor, $7,900 will come or came from local donors1/4//98 -- Daleville Ledger - For a while, it appeared the chances of the Daleville Recreation Services holding a winter youth basketball league were quite remote. With the floor at the Community Center in such bad shape, the possible liability would be too much of a risk to players, putting the season in jeopardy of being cancelled. That was until Daleville council member Chris Goulart and former DHS standout Tony Richardson, among others in the community, decided to do something about it. Through an appropriation from the Daleville City Council and funding from local sources, the Community Center recently installed a new floor, keeping alive the upcoming youth basketball season and future ones to come as well. "The decision was made shortly after we took office to see about securing the funding for a new floor at the community center," Goulart said. "We looked at a number of avenues to getting a new floor because we knew the current floor would not last another year. Thanks to the help of a number of people, we've got a new floor." The floor, which upon closer inspection looks like a Lego building block concoction, was installed by Four Square Marketing, a new company located in Ozark. Goulart said he is pleased with the floor, which is softer than the previous floor and helps alleviate any possible wet spots, since the floor is perforated. "That was a big concern with the previous floor," Goulart said of the potential for wet spots. "With this floor it all runs through onto the bottom part and stays dry. We've already had the high school kids in here to break it in and it works great." Goulart said the biggest concern about getting the new floor was the potential cost. Even though the new floor was the first for the Ozark company, he said raising the money was still big, considering the City Council appropriation was $5,500, well short of the $14,900 and some change needed. "We have a lot of people in this town that want to help, they just need to be told how they can help and for what their help is going to go," Goulart said. "We received a lot of help from a lot of people, to which this wouldn't be possible." Among the big donors Goulart wanted to specially thank were the Daleville Board of Education, the Daleville Housing Authority, Erma Norris at the Daleville Inn ($2,000), State Representative Steve Clouse ($1,500), Scott Coleman over at Four Square Marketing (coming off the price $4,000), as well as Tony Richardson and the entire Kansas City organization. "Everybody was very helpful in getting this to come around," Goulart said. "But we've still got a little more money to raise. That's where Tony came in to help." Looking to help finish out the costs involved, Goulart made a plea to the former Daleville standout, who along with the Kansas City organization, was more than willing to help.
